Our V-Day Snow Day {and other fun happenings}

February 18, 2014 by Sarah

Happy Monday, friends!
This past weekend started a little earlier than usual, since it decided to snow on Wednesday of last week.  We do the “happy dance” around here whenever we see quick accumulations and know that the rare call to our land line during inclement weather is most certainly the school systems telling us about the cancellation.  With school closed both Thursday and Friday, it meant we got some extra family time with Daddy at home!  If only we had a fireplace, it would have been complete perfection!
On Thursday, we stayed in pajamas longer than usual.  They make for great fort building attire.  We changed it up a bit and had a picnic lunch on the floor in the living room.
After naps on Thursday, the kids got out in the snow a little bit.  I have learned from this year’s weather that I need to invest in some serious snow gear!  I need a water resistant coat and snow boots like nobody’s business.  Savannah did too {I didn’t get her any after she never got to wear her snow boots from last year since it hardly snowed}, but we improvised a bit with trash bags!
She and her Daddy had fun making a snowman.  We decided to name him Olaf, from the movie Frozen.  Brady didn’t last long outside.  Maybe it was because he’s partial to warmer weather, or because he could hardly walk in his snow boots, or perhaps it was that he didn’t like wearing my socks as mittens.  ðŸ™‚  Either way, he preferred watching them from the inside.
We decided to get out on Friday, so we headed to the mall.  We had lunch at Chick-fil-A and then let the kids play in their indoor play area.  It’s getting harder and harder to get pictures with both kids, but we still try!
After nap time, Savannah and Brady woke up to a couple Valentine’s Day treats.  They both received some cards in the mail, along with a couple treats from us.  We are thankful to Dollar Tree for helping us out this year!
Kev and I stepped out of our comfort zones on Friday night.  The students from our youth group were sponsoring a babysitting night to raise funds for their mission trip this summer, so we dropped our kids off and then went dancing!  Most of the couples from our small group went, so it was nice to spend some time with them, but also spend one-on-one time with our spouses on the dance floor.  We learned a bit of the Waltz and Swing, but have a long way to go before we are ready for Dancing with the Stars.  We still had a great night and would love to do it again next year!
Kev worked at his part-time job over the weekend, so I was with the kids by myself most of the weekend.  Savannah and I made some sugar cookies on Saturday while Daddy was at work and Brady was napping.  She is really getting interested in cooking/baking these days.  I wish I could say we still had some leftover, but who am I kidding?  ðŸ™‚

How was your Valentine’s Day weekend?

    Sounds like it was a GREAT long weekend!!! Even with the snow, we ended up with too many activities going on with the kids to sneak out for a date, so we are having a belated Valentine's date next weekend! Your children are just precious! Love the pics!
